Keurig frustration..
« on: June 18, 2026, 05:37:09 AM »
My son has had it with Keurig coffee dispensers.  He has used them for years, and it seems they are becoming less and less durable as time goes on.

Originally, thy would last a couple years, then just a few months, the last one, bought for his studio, lasted only a month and about 2-3 cups of coffee.

It is not the water, since he has a filtration/purification system.

Normally, he would just toss the old one and buy new...which he did with the others.

Finally, with his last one going only a couple or three cups, on principle he called their warranty service, and got a whole range of excuses from them, even after sending photos of the sales slip and other required documentation..

Naturally, the person he talked to on the phone sounded like a refugee from Bangladesh, who kept spouting the same phrases over and over, along with a refusal.

I used to have a Keurig, and I have water heavy with lime, so I cleaned it often.  ..But being as I live alone and only drink 1 or 2 cups of coffee per day, I found a better answer for my personal usage, since an open jar or bag of coffee goes stale before I reach bottom.

I have gone to the small packets of Tasters Choice instant coffee, and am well pleased with them. It is just as good as brewed to my taste ! Other brands offer such packets also. However for some reason, the Tasters Choice packets seem to have double the amount of others, providing 2 cups per packet.

Stick with my almost 20 year old Mr. Coffee maker. From 4 to 12 cups, an on and off switch, and that's it. My coffee cup actually holds almost double what a normal cup does. So if it's just me, enough water for 4. Usually just put the water up to the 12 cup level. One of my boys is usually around, and either one likes ice coffee, so it never goes to waste. I think they still make that model, half tempted to buy one just in case this one ever quits.
We keep trying peace, it usually doesn't work!!Remember(12/7/41)(9/11/01) gypsyman

My grandson the pastor, also has a coffee shop. He does just about all the tricky coffee drinks, lattes etc. such as Starbucks does. I just can't deal with the thought
of iced coffee...gives me a sort of "fingernails on a chalkboard" feeling.

   ..But that's just probably me.. :D ;D

Iced coffee and cold Tea in charged water were my go to when I landscaped.
I would make a large pot of coffee the night before and put in the the refrigerator over night, then put it in a thermos.
Making strong tea with fizzy water was a much bigger challenge as  you had to use powdered tea and it and
charged water do not like each other, but I would buy, rare back then, bottled charged well water and carefully, very, mix them.

To me Keurig is a good way to end up with a lot of permanent trash for lazy people;  where as coffee maker leave not permanent trash.  I used to go through more expensive coffee makers every two to three years, even with cleaning and using distilled water often.
I have Mr. Coffee now that you can still set the timer for the morning, but it replaced a similar one that lasted near ten
near ten years. The only real difference is the way the coffee pot open the filter drain, which is actually some what annoying
as except for the plastic lid, they are identical. :o
I do have one that makes two single cups of coffee, the coffee pot is the glass you drink it out of, but I found it better to use the old fashioned types with a normal pot.   I have the tired ones at the old home house where I have my other garden, which is turning into a junk yard for items the other half is tired of.    ;D

 Addendum:
When we bought the new Mr. Coffee, it was not working well at all, the other half said get a different one, so, I took it apart and took a kink, from the factory, out of the water feed.  Now it works like a charm. 8)

I keep a couple old filter holders and heat water in the micro or flame camping. Tired of the coffee makers giving up the ghost.
