New(er) rods/reels
« on: Yesterday at 05:16:54 PM »
I had the opportunity to fix up a few reels
and a couple of newer cheapie combos
for a neighbor over rhe last week.
One was an old original zebco 202 with the
metal foot, a newer 404 that's all plastic, a
1979 ( by the serial#) Ambassadeur 5000,
and 2 zebco Slingshot combos that are
more or less newer 202's from chy nah
like wallyworld sells for like $14.00 new.

I could sure tell the difference in the quality
of those. The 404 and the 5000 were full
of muddy water and silty mess, but cleaned
up good and both function well.
The 202 was full cobwebs and dry as a
bone and the grease had turned to powder.
It cleaned up ok and functions as well as
a 202 ever did.
The slingshot combos surprised me as
well as they function for a combo selling
for less than $15.00
I'd probably pick up a couple of those if
I were wanting some spare sonething for
kids or guests to use/  loaners

Honestly I dont see my Garcia's or Shimano's
puking anytime soon or before I pass.
I have some old zebco 33's that are getting
pretty sad, but are still able to land 1 1/2- 2
pound channel cats.
We shall see
