GOA Files Legislation to Create Legal Machinegun Ownership

GOA has drafted model legislation to legally sell post-1986 machineguns to citizens. And officials in several states are chomping at the bit to introduce this bill.
 
But here’s the great news: West Virginia is now taking the lead!
 
That's right. State Legislators in West Virginia just introduced a bill, SB 1071, authored by Gun Owners of America, to sell machineguns to citizens legally.
 
This bill would create
State-Operated Machinegun Stores.

ICYMI: On May 19th 1986, the purchase of new machineguns was banned by the federal government.
 
But, within this ban there is an exception.
 
States, and those who are "under their authority," may possess machineguns according to federal law.
 
While a transfer of a machinegun from a dealer or a fellow citizen might be prohibited, an exception exists for the States to transfer machineguns to individuals.
 
The best part? The federal government agrees.
 
In a recent lawsuit, the Department of Justice argued that the ban on machineguns does not apply to transfers done by the government.
 
This means you can own a machinegun, no more ridiculous prices, no collectors tax.

What could be a better “well regulated Militia” than a citizenry armed with machineguns? 
 
Our legislation fully comports with the text history and tradition of the Second Amendment.
 
Every State should be incentivized to maintain the security of a free state by arming its citizens with the most modern equipment possible.
 
And that’s why I’m asking you to help GOA spread this legislation to more states in the country.

We’ve been working to gut the National Firearms Act for decades.
 
Last year, GOA spearheaded efforts in Congress to repeal most of the NFA’s taxes. Then, we filed suit to challenge the registration requirements with our One Big Beautiful Lawsuit. 
 
Now, we’re tackling the prohibition on machineguns with West Virginia.

I suggest that "we" be damn careful what we wish for.  If the full-auto weapons are going to be transferred from a governmental entity to private hands, there's gonna be a cat's cradle of strings attached.

 Wish them luck. Doesn't interest me that much. Shot a couple full auto's years ago. Didn't really impress me that much, and with the price of ammo/reloading now days, even less. Guess I'm interested more in accuracy than speed, so stick with my semi auto's.

Not interested in any full auto myself,
but I feel that a law abiding citizen
should be able to buy whatever they
can afford. I equate that with the guys
I've known who buy safari type double
rifles and the chassis type rifles just
because they can, and will never
realistically use them for their intended
purpose. Mainly for fondling and
watching television shows with it in
their lap.
I've always held the opinion that
those who aren't trustworthy and
shouldn't possess firearms and
knives, etc. shouldn't be roaming
freely among the honest law abiding
citizenry.
These unhinged or renegade types
need to be behind many layers of
tall barbed wire fences, or laid
deeply under the soil, whichever
is appropriate in their case.
Honest law abiding citizens should
never have to live in a fortress
with a plethora of surveillance
cameras and alarms etc.

          It was Reagan who signed the law that made it impossible for any one without a proper class Fed. permit to buy a new machine gun.
I was at a gun show looking at a Thompson that was selling for less than 3,000 dollars; the dealer said if you want one buy it now as when the law Reagan signed goes into effect the price will double at minimum.

          I did not have thousands of dollars for a gun that would be used for entertainment -  at that point.  My father was alive back then and if I had purchased one, he would have ripped me a new anal orifice verbally and then said - You bought the damn thing, let's go out and shoot it.

         Of course back then a thousand dollars was probably the equivalent of five thousand dollars now but as much as I wish I could get a full-auto Thompson, I would not trade the best firearms I bought in the following years for one that it is a hemorrhoid when dealing with gov. god wannabes in St. Paul nowadays.
