Anybody have any experience with this cartridge? We have a straight wall limitation on our rifles and pistols to deer hunt and this cartridge interests me in a rifle.

All I know is that it was Teddy Roosevelt's favorite big game round. He used it on the big stuff of Africa, and spoke glowingly of it !

I have the book Big Game Rifles by Elmer Keith and he speaks highly of it, but what rifle would you used?

I am happy with my 375 win as out of 9 deer that I’ve taken, they all go 40 yds. Bullet selection is small with the 405. Still interesting though.

i picked up (stole) a 95 405 about 15 years ago for 350 bucks. it was in great shape and even a fancy checkered one. i was working when i stumbled on it at a garage sale where we were rebuilding a distribution line. bought it on the spot. through it in the line truck and was heading home and called my best friend who was a lineman in a different district. hes a bigger gun nut then even me and especially loves old lever guns. he said hed give me a grand unseen. that next weekend i gave it to him. so you could say i probably didnt steal it because in the end it cost me 350. but i had money to burn back then and the smile on his face was worth it! might just be the best gun deal i ever ran across. dont even have a clue what it would be wort today but id guess north of 2k
