Getting about 2 dz. a week from my hens. Got 4 chicks in the barn growing, will set up a cage in the regular pen shortly and get them familiarized with the older hens about the end of the month. Figure with these 4 and a few of the older hens still good for another year, should be good for 3 dz. a week, o will give some away once in awhile. And, definitely, NO rooster! Won't put up with noise at 6:15 am.

My neighbor a block west of me had a fighting rooster for about 2 years. He crowed off and on all day. Reminded me of when I was a kid. I used to raise Bantam chickens. The roosters we purty and feisty.
I miss hearing crows caw, and Bluejays also.
I do not know how it was down your way, but in my part of Minn., when I was young crow were there but actually quite scarse.
They were ONLY in the country and were very jumpy, you did not get close to them, now, they are thick in town, often a half-dozen will land to eat at a bird/squirrel feeder.
You still cannot get real close but you can get within 30 yards often.
There have been quite a few articles recently, on bird behaviour where it is showing climate, (not just temp. ) and where I am, both towns, Robins, Grackels and other formerly common birds in town are getting rare some yrars.
