Oh, what a wonderful plight the United States government has given the Native American.
Let's take the Eastern Navahoe Reservation for instance. Moved there at gunpoint by the caring soldiers and given "almost enough food" to survive on these desolate unwantedlands, so let's see where they are today.

The St Boneventure School is still trying to help these abandoned people,  and have not made any real progress in more than 30 years.
70% of it inhabitants is at 67% unemployment, and 44% of the children under 18 and 38% of adults over 65, or 9 out of every 10 live in such poverty they qualify for free breakfast IF ITS AVAILABLE.

 THE AVERAGE INCOME ON THE RES. IS $6,000.00, AND THIS A COMMONALITY ON MOST RESERVATIONS.

Most uninformed people only see so far as the gambling casinos, and in Oklahoma the governor is trying to seize them for state ownership.

Yeah, rhe good ole USA and their  stellar treatment of the American Indian. Yeaaaaa!

I didn't say they were doing well on every reservation, since some of the western reservations are having a hard time.  However, many have capitalized on their special status to run casinoes, make & sell cigarettes, market untaxed gasoline and liquor.

  When I travel to the local reservations, the employees  in the Gas stations, tobacco stores etc. are mostly not Indians.  The casinos money distribution and govt  bennies, many apparently choose not to work..

  I suspect that if I were living on one of the failing reservations, I would go ahead and move out..finding my future elsewhere, or take advantage of the breaks other reservations have utilized.

  Many who are entitled to res living, don't do so, since they have found their niche off the res.

  Couldn't find a picture of the Seneca's cigarette factory, but it covers an estimated 6-8 acres.

  I supose there is a big difference between eastern & western reservations, but when I see programs proclaiming of the problems on reservations, I ask myself.."then why don't they just leave, and find life & work away from the res"?  I know many who have, and life on the eastern reservations is not tough.... unless you make it so !

  Back to the subject!   Today's indians are far better off than how the Romans treated the Gauls, for instance..or come to think of it, how the Senecas treated the Erie tribe, whom they vanquished.

Because their schools are substandard, many had to quit school to work,  most have no real skills for the outside world,  and many don't know anything about where to start, or go. They are captive in their own ignorance, of how, and where to start, and lifelong poverty that have kept them from even seeing the world outside the reservation.
As for leaving the reservation? To go where? And how do they get there? Where do they stay, whenever they get wherever their supposed to go.? How do they eat? And what kind a job awaits them when they get to wherever their going, which is a place they've never been.?

It isn't as simple as some would "perceive it to be". These people were forcibly rounded up and put on land no one else wanted. They were intentionally isolated, kept in the dark, and controlled by government controlled poverty, and social bigotry.

It's worse than any government housing, and it take money to leave the reservation .

  No question, many wrongs were done to these one time proud and free people. Possibly that is where things differ with the local Indian population around here.  Some reservations are large enough to have their own school K-12, but most attend regular, non res high schools

  You are probably correct in that some , who are on remote reservations, may well have a lot of problems transferring to the general populations.  That makes one wonder but what the BIA doesn't need a major overhaul.

  Despite your edgy retorts..let us converse seriously for now?  I suggest that much of that conjecture likely comes from the leftist point of view, which refuses to recognize the clear fact that people are INDIVIDUALS !  The left has a tendency to lump people into "groups" and thus miss many truths.  By doing so, here are some truths which most lefties miss!

  1)  The left says all white people owe reparations to all black people here in the US, because of slavery. 
 
  2) The US north didn't generally own slaves , and slaves were  only owned by the more affluent in the south ! 

   Should people who never had any slaves, and may in fact, have been abolitionists pay reparations?

  3) Some black people came here after slavery was outlawed in 1865!

   Should these late arrivals be handed a windfall bonus, purely by their skin color.?

  4) Examples of crimes..A)  Deadwood Dick steals a horse on the open range in 1859 , and gets away with it ! B) Leon lives in the ghetto today, but back in 1843, his great, great, great grandfather robbed a corner grocer at gunpoint.

   Should deadwood Dick's great, great , great grandson be hung as a horse thief?  Should Leon be jailed for what his great, great, great grandfather did ?

  5) During our civil war, hundreds of thousands of white, northern troops gave their lives in their effort to free the slaves..

  Do descendants of the freed slaves owe a small "thank you" reward to the descendants of those heroic, civil war dead?

  I asked in the questions highlighted in brown, in sincerity..so please answer them in like sincerity.  Surely there must be some reason why the left seems to not recognize these gaps in logic.
