Opener coming up
« on: August 28, 2020, 05:00:08 PM »
Everybody have a place to go
and pop shells that hasn't been
turned into a gated subdivision?

I haven't been in a while now.
I was just trying to remember
where my plug was.  I'd have
to change out chokes too.

Lotta high rises and luxury office
space and ritzy condos in some
of the places I used to have free
reign to go.  Some I could set up
a small tent and stay the weekend
and cook a piece of meat on a
small grill

We have a place we hunt in Martin county and will be there opening day and back again for labor day weekend. From the sound of it there should be plenty of dove, fingers crossed the reports are right.

I have some prime land of my own, plus hundreds of other acres where I have permission, plus several open state forests nearby.    I don't normally use the state forests though, because prefer to use private land..

Good luck to everyone heading out to dove hunt. It's been our favorite past time for decades. A time to sit together and talk, trade shots and just enjoy each others company. A little bit of competitiveness there at the end of a good evening so someone can claim they were the top shot and everyone else giving the supposed winner a hard time on missed shots and how many shells they burned up.

All fun and worth every minute.

Watch out for a piece of dog-doo dressed in Ninja suits, wearing the obligatory masks, and shouting BLM slogans!   ;) ;D ;D :P

I own some pretty isolated property in Texas and I pay my taxes. Since I don't reside in the state I get to buy an out of state license if I want to hunt anything on my property. I get nothing in return for my property taxes and I'm damn sure not contributing anymore to them to hunt on my land.

That does suck in the worst way.
I never understood where the different
states get their criterion for license fees.
The last time I bought a Louisiana fishing
license it was over $100.00 with all the
things I had to buy to be legal.

I haven't been out at all.
Some I've spoken with had
great success, and others had
a big bust and no birds.
Up until a few weeks before
the opener,  there was all kinds
of birds here in the yard.
Finally saw 2 today pecking
around for gravel.
