How to??
« on: September 29, 2007, 02:46:41 AM »
How can I find out if a stolen firearm has ever been recovered by the police???  I had two handguns stolen in 1991.  One was recovered by the NYCPD within 6 months and held for 3 yrs for trial evidence.  When they were through sentencing the culprit they called and asked if I wanted the pistol returned - it has been in my ppossession since but one is still missing.

How can I find out if it has ever been recovered??  Thanks.  Mikey.

I don't think you can but I believe any FFL dealer or police department can query NICS database to check the serial number. If it's been recovered the database "should" indicate that. But finding a cooperative FFL dealer or police department to do it for you seems rather hit and miss.
