AAC handi rifle question/mod
«
on:
September 16, 2012, 06:50:38 PM »
I just bought a 300 AAC blackout handi an shot 50 rounds through it this weekend an boy it's a pain in the ass to have to did the round out each time my buddy has a handi in 45-70 and his ejects the rounds by its self I did some reading on here and see there's a way to covert mine to do that but i don't feel safe cutting the part so was wondering if anyone on here did that an would sell the modified extractor to ejector? And if not all I need is just the extractor and to cut the notch right?
Thanks for all the help

I'm not aware of a gunsmith who's offering this service. My previous 'smith shyed away from the work due to the difficulty and risk. Unfortunately you can't just buy a new part and replace it if you mess up.
Many here have strong interests in the AAC Handi rifle. Can you share the details to how you were able to acquire one? Was it in stock somewhere or did you have to preorder it?
Thanks, Dinny

Well that sucks its not a easy task. As for how I got it I work part time for a guy with a FFL so ordered it from the wholesaler when they got them in stock but they went fast.

WELCOME JSP!!
This gun should be a extractor, meaning the brass is pushed out of the chamber about 1/4".
Are you looking to make it a ejector? Meaning one that forcefully ejects the case or bullet over the shooters shoulder?
There is no mod I know of to convert a new style extractor to a ejector.
What's in the FAQs is two methods of changing the ejector into a pseudo extractor. I say pseudo because it lacks any mechanical advantage.

Here's the conversion process for converting a factory extractor to a factory ejector, it can be done as shown, or on a mill, the problem now is no one has a factory ejector, Brownell's no longer lists them, Numrich is sold out, but I think a Hornet ejector can be modified to work in the 223. As Dinny mentioned, it's not just a swap of parts, the underlug has to be modified to allow the ejector latch and spring as well as the lift button to be installed.

A 223 ejector claw(or maybe a modified Hornet ejector from Numrich) which isn't made any more, hasn't been since about 2006 when they switched to extractors, plus the ejector latch, spring and lift button, all parts are shown in the FAQs, latch and spring are the same as Pardner shotguns, but lift buttons are no longer made either because they were only used on ejector rimless centerfire rifle barrels, but can be made, dimensions are shown in the FAQs. I've never tried to change an extractor claw into an ejector claw, but I suppose it could be done, the bottom of the ejector claw is totally different than an extractor claw.

It has to be a '99 or later ejector barrel, older ejectors had fatter posts that won't fit it a later ejector barrel with a shallow ejector notch which is the same as an extractor notch.

Of course, we ALL understand how frustrating that can be..... removing a spent case manually
. If it becomes too wearysome, some kind soul here
might, might, be convinced to help relieve you of that burden......
