I stumbled across a 7.63 x 39 handi...
« on: June 02, 2012, 11:53:08 AM »
Went to a local gun show that a buddy put on.
Lot of nice stuff, but I really wasn't in the buying mood.
All the way in the back I found the little Handi in 7.62 x 39 with a simmons 4X scope.  ;)
Looked like it spent most of it's life behind the seat in a pickup.
May have been one of the dirtiest rifles I've seen.
You'd think they would wipe it off before setting it out.  :o

He had $300 on it.
I tried to convinced him $225 was fair.  ::)
Left with it and minus $260.
I cleaned it up and it looks a lot better.
Think I did okay?  ???

I stumbled across a brand new 7.62x39 handi at a local toy store but didn't have the money to buy it.  They wanted $269 for it I think.
My biggest fear in life is dying and my wife selling my guns for what I told her I paid for them.

You did a lot better than I did!  I couldn't find any, so I pieced mine together buying "lock and stock" from the classifieds here, and sent it in to the factory to fit a barrel.  I believe it was over $300 total!

Well it cleaned up real nice.
Blue under the dirt was in surprisingly good shape.  ;D
No noticeable wear and no rust.
Stock had the normal couple dings in it.
But otherwise in good shape also.  ;D
Barrel took some time to clean up.
I had to run a half dozen patches through it before I could see the rifling.  :o
A few more and it shined up real nice.

Pretty happy with it, now I have a inexpensive shooter.
Picked up some cheap ammo, need to make time for a range visit now.

I almost bought one when they were making them but I ordered a CZ527 in that caliber instead but I wish I could fined one or a barrel because a have about 1500 rounds left over from a couple of AK's and would like a single shot to shoot too.

Wonder if it had corrosive milsurp shot through it with no or poor cleaning afterwards.  How's the "bolt face"?

Everything cleaned up real nice and appears in good shape.
It just didn't get much love  ::)  for a while.
I just don't get not cleaning something up before offering it for sale.  ???
It may have been surplus ammo, but the rifling is sharp and shiny.

I've got a few handi's I haven't had a chance to shoot yet.
Hoping to break free in the next weekend or two to do some shooting.  :(

Picked up a 22-250 with scope on close out at Dick's couple months ago for $150!!

They also had a 223 for same price. Kicking myself for not buying it too
