One of our member, geezer56, is generously donating a 454 Casull rifle chamber reamer to rent to GBO members, he'll be sending it to me as soon as he does his barrels, Bill (Graybeard) has given his Ok, so if anyone wants to rechamber their 45 Colt Carbine to Casull, PM me your name and address and I'll start a list, terms are the same as with the 357 Max reamer.

There are good instructions in the FAQs, just never turn the reamer backwards, always turn it clockwise in the cutting direction and use lots of cutting oil, it doesn't hurt to remove the reamer every few turns to clean the cuttings off with a soft brush, and go slow keeping the reamer inline with the bore, mounted vertical in a bench vice is the easiest way to do that, don't use the ends of the reamer handle for torque, try to turn it from as near the center as possible, the last two I did I used a nut driver and a 3/8" square drive socket so I'm just twisting the reamer and I'm less likely to end up cutting an egg shaped chamber by too much side force.

Please ship it back to me in a small flat rate priority box , cost will be a $5.80, be sure to use lots of tape to seal it up and include the original packing, some folks reuse the box, some use a new box, just depends on how it gets handled by the PO before they receive it. Include $20 cash(more is Ok too

But... Tell me fellers... $:-\$ I gotta 45 Colt carbine and a 45-70 wearing carbine wood. I know nothing about the 454.

Does it fit a nich between those 2 cartridges?

Sure does Richard, might come closer to the factory 45-70 loads than you think.

I might do it, but have 2 Rossi 454 Casull levers already. 'Course "need" never had anything to do with "want" when it comes to me and guns.

quick, the reamer will start on it's way to you tomorrow. I did my 3 yesterday, took all of 30 minutes. Just for info, guys, this reamer is made for a rifle. It has a real leade section, like any bottleneck cartridge. It does NOT have the forcing cone arrangement like the SAAMI spec reamers do that are made for revolver use. Use lots of oil, clean frequently, and don't go too deep! It takes less time and force than you will believe. Thanks for all the kind words, guys. I've used this forum to answer a lot of questions, learn a lot, and sell, buy and trade handi rifle parts. Most of my handi herd has come through here, a piece at a time. This is somthing I can do to give back a little bit, in payment of what I've gotten from here. Danny, the geezer

What kind of accuracy are you guys seeing in your 454s, and what bullets are shooting the best with the Handi-rifle barrels? Thanks.

Mine shoots easily into 2" at one hundred yards with its preferred loads. SO far I have only fired about 6 different powder and bullet combo's.
Here is a 50 Yard target I shot just after rechambering. Disregard bottom holes. There are five holes in the center:

The 300 XTP MAG and Gold Dot 454 bullets are good as is the 200 and 250 Hornady FTX bullets. As for pref on game, thus far only a 40# Coyote has been harvested. That was with a 200 FTX, very large exit so this bullet at just over 1900 may be fragile.

BUT, I have harvested over a dozen with my 45 COLT loaded to about 454 ballistics when fired from a hand gun and the 300 Speer, 300 XTP and 300 Sierra are favorites. Of those the 300 Sierra is my favorite.

Took about three turns on my barrel and it was done.Shoots a little than it did with 45colt and now the 45colt seems to even shoot better.There is a bit of a recoil jump with the full bore 454

I just got done reaming my barrel. This required even less reaming than the 357 max did. I only had to ream about the depth of the rim cut. Simple.

I am waiting for the reamer. The Classic Carbine is on the way. Two boxes of .454 300gr arrived today with the Marbles Bullseye peep sight. When the rifle arrives, I will measure for the Kick Killer lace leather pad from Cabela's and a leather sling. Any advice on the pad size or sling is appreciated. Life is good.

A dumb 2-part question:

1. Could this be used on the 45/410 barrel without disastrous results and

2. Could this be used on my Judge 45/410 pistol?

I don't think there's any point, the chamber should already be big enough to chamber a Casull round, but wouldn't be safe to fire due to the pressure involved and the mild steel the 45/410 barrel is made of.

I'd like to rent the 454 Casull reamer, traded my 460 15" barrel..........so , no need to go that way, have a lot of 454 ammo though
