Prefit Limbsaver for Synthetic Stock!!
« on: December 29, 2007, 01:03:36 PM »
A fella at Shooters Forum asked about an upgraded recoil pad for the H&R synthetic stock, and I got one of those bright ideas that happens once in a while. ::)  I have a Tikka T3 Lite 338Winmag with the Limbsaver #10011 pad on it, I compared the OEM pad to the contour of the synthetic stock, it's real close, so just for S&G, I removed the Limbsaver from the Tikka and checked the fit on a synthetic stock, it's not perfect, but it's good enough to use, it's just a tad wider and taller than the stock, but I think it could be sanded down enough to match perfect or just used as is, it isn't off that much. The top hole in the pad mounting plate would need to be slotted just a little higher, and a new mounting fixture(block of wood) epoxied in for the bottom mount, unless the hole could be relocated slightly towards the bottom. I'd use it myself if I liked the synthetic stocks more, but I'm sure others here will be interested, specially those with 45-70s and anyone with a bad shoulder or shooters that are recoil sensitive. ;)

Tim

EDIT:  The #10018 prefit is made for the (old style Monte Carlo) synthetic Handi stock, also fits early checkered synthetic monte carlo, but not the late checkered syn monte stock that has the molding line behind the checkering.

Update 9/3/22: Limbsaver #10011 fits the early checkered syn stock after relocating the lower screw hole in the pad.

Tim,

Does that pad fit flush with the end of the stock, or is it made to fit inside like the original? I like the synthetic stock pad better than the wood stock pad personally.

It fits flush with the end of the stock, doesn't have an inset portion like the factory pad. Basically fits the same on the Tikka stock, its factory pad has a similar inset portion on the pad like the H&R factory pad.

Thanks Tim.

How about noting this in the FAQ, if you've not already done so.   :)

I did a little more digging on the Limbsaver site, they have another pad that I think will fit the synthetic stock even better, the #10018 appears to have the same hole pattern too, it's not quite as wide as the #10011, but still a tad wider than the stock, 1.5162" compared to the stock at 1.475", the #10011 is 1.555" wide.

After doing a little more research looking for the #10018 pad, I find that it's made for the synthetic Handi!! ::)

Now the problem is finding someone that has it, I did an internet search, one source lists it for the MSRP of $39.99, :-X same price as Limbsaver sells it for,  the prefits at Sportsman's Warehouse are $29.

Tim I shoot a synthetic 45-70 and I love it. I'm fairly recoil sensitive with a 300 win mag is as much recoil as I can shoot well. I am short framed and cut my synthetic stock a 1/2" and found a pad (limbsaver) that length wise fits perfect and sticks out each side a 1/16 to 1/8". I just left it like that. Works great. Don't forget I had to epoxy an oak block to get a screw bite. I just wanted everyone to know that there is hope even if you cut the synthetic stock a little.
