Replacement stock for Stevens 200
« on: May 25, 2007, 05:13:39 AM »
??? I have been thinking about picking up a 200 in either a 223 or 22-250 but I hate that tupperware stock. Is there a replacement stock on the market for this rilfe? If the Mossberg  ATR came in 223 I would get it instead, it's stock feels better thab the stevens. Thanks, Jess

I ordered a Richard's micro fit for my Savage 111 last week.   I was told it would take 13 weeks to deliver.   So, my Savage .270 will have a new Monte Carlo, semi fancy, bastone walnut stock by fall.  There are others who offer stocks for the Savage/Stevens.

I'm not real crazy about the tupperware stocks either.

Have a look at the Bell & Carlson Stocks. I replaced stocks on two Savages with a B&C and I was happy with the results. They can be purchased at around $100.

it may cost you $100 more, but i'd start out with one of those synthetic stocks that has a Remington Model 700 barrel'd action screw'd onto it!    i wouldn't bother with a Steven's, Sssaaaaa....., or Mossberg with a new stock then being needed when i could start out with a new Model 700 SPS with that legendary Model 700 accuracy.

why bother buying a brand new rifle that has such a miserable stock on it????   i didn't like the flexibility of some of the Model 700 ADL Synthetics that i worked on; but their accuracy was just fine even with those relatively light stocks.    some of them are amazingly accurate!    BUT, those stocks on those Rem's were not the cheap stuff i saw on the Ssssaaaa......Ssssssaaaaa (you know) that i saw in Gander Mountain and so on!

just my sincere opinion,

SS' I'll stick with the Weatherby Vanguard, Ultra Handi's , CZ American and the Remy SPS and stay away from the tupperware stocks and for the most part stay with wood. If i am going to spend the money it might as well be a nice rifle. Jess :o :o

Being the same action as the Savage, there shouldn't be a problem with finding  a stock to fit. Richards has plenty of non selected wood stocks, and there are several other stockmakers.

If the gun didn't shoot so well I wouldn't bother putting a nice stock on it......truth is, it shoots very well......

i think some of their rifles MAY start out shooting with the Remingtons.   but their button-rifled barrels are not going to last as long with the 'hotter' calibers, and they'll need re-barreling sooner when they start losing their accuracy.    a hammer-forged barrel (Weatherby, Winchester, Ruger, Howa, and some others) will handle hot-rod calibers better/much longer and will not copper-foul as readily in many instances.   look at how much copper some of those button-rifled barrels will pick up, too!    "foul-o-matics" they're called by some of the guys on Long-Range.com and NationalMatch.us websites.    if you want a 'good' button-rifled barrel i think you'll have to get one that has been lapped.     and those cheap stocks are an abomination!

i think that the Remington Model 700 is easily worth $100 more than the Stevens or the Mossberg.   i believe the Weatherby Vanguard has it all over any Sssssaaaaa :o :o   Sssaaavvv......that i've ever looked at.    it's been several years since i shot a Model 10 Tactical of theirs.   it was alright, with a relatively stiff 20" long, bull barrel.   but it won't outshoot my Remington ADL Syn' in .308.

sometimes you just "get what you pay for".   i'd leave the Stevens and the ATR in the rack at the vendor's.

I use to be a Remington guy, great rifles, now, have 2 Ruger 77's, a tang saftey 22-250 and a a new 260, 2 Winchester Super Shadows, 270 WSM and 300 WSM, my most accurate and favorite deer rifles, 2 Stevens, 25-06 and 7-08, and a Mossberg ATR 270. Plus, 17 Handi rifles and Thompson Encore and Contenders. I still wish I had kept my Remington 600 308!
