7.62x39 Surplus ammo

Got my new 7.62x39 barrel this week. When I placed a round (factory) in the barrel I noticed the head space. On observation it appears that the cartridge head is some .050 recessed... So the hammer has to move and go deeper in the primer to actuate the firing of any cartridge. That could be the cause of NEF barrels not properly firing the Surplus 7.62x39 ammo.

Im shooting factory rounds in mine so far i think i have hade 2 factory rounds not go off. thats 2 out of 40 not to good. Opening day it tomarrow. man i hope it goes off 8)

I have only shot 10 rounds and no problem with factory ammo. They are head space to deep, for surplus ammo! This I expected before getting the barrel and would not sell it for now. At least mine is to deep.

I too have HS problems with my 7.62x39 barrel , i started with new Winchester brass and have only shot hand loads in it .

What i have found that helps is when i reload the cases i only neck size them , now that they have been fire formed to the chamber the sholder has moved a little farther forward and this has filled the gap at the breach face .

I have only shot one box of rem. factory ammo in my 7.62-39-one misfire. Haven't done enough to tell, but Stimpy seems to have it right as far as the fix.Hunman55
